The vehicles you modify are delivered right the first time—safe, functional, and built to last.
The Vehicle Modifier Technician will be responsible for adding and removing parts and components to vehicles according to specific directions to meet wheelchair customization needs. They will install ramps and other accessibility adaptations by welding and aligning components to vehicles. This individual must be able to analyze, troubleshoot, disassemble vehicle components and store for future use, align, assemble, weld and fit final assembly parts and accessories to vehicles.

Duties and Responsibilities

Vehicle Modification & Installation • Responsible for completing custom wheelchair modifications to Minivans. • Modify vehicle fittings, including ladder axel and shelving units. • Install wheelchair ramps and other parts to vehicles. • Assemble and install vehicle accessories, installation of ceiling, windows, seats, floor systems, heat ducts and exterior & interior sidewalls. • Fit carpet and floor, wall and ceiling material. • Weld metal parts to vehicles. • Use a variety of handheld tools and power equipment to complete modification and installation work. Blueprints, Manuals & Compliance • Read blueprint and instruction documentation to conduct custom installation work. • Consult manufacturer’s manuals to ensure proper installation. • Ensure that all adaptations and modifications comply with legal standards. • Inspect vehicles and equipment to ensure compliance with rules, standards, or regulations. Inspection, Testing & Quality Control • Inspect vehicles, installed equipment and other pieces for evidence of damage or mechanical malfunction. • Inspect installation and repairs to vehicles or the equipment installed to ensure that all work completed was performed properly. • Conduct tests to ensure modifications are installed correctly and meeting specified modifications. Documentation & Reporting • Prepare reports and complete paperwork as required based on modifications completed. Complete all necessary documentation. • Monitor parts installed, record parts usage. • Accurately complete work orders within designated timelines. Work Conditions • Overtime may be required at the discretion of the manager. • Manual dexterity is required for operating hand and power tools, as well as using a desktop computer and related peripherals. • May be required to lift or move items weighing up to 75 lbs. • Frequent standing, bending, squatting, and performing tasks in physically uncomfortable positions or underneath vehicles. • Exposure to strong odors, loud noise levels, and varying environmental conditions (indoor and outdoor work). • Personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn, including steel-toed safety boots, safety glasses or goggles, protective clothing, gloves, and air filtration devices as needed.

Qualifications

Technically Skilled - I possess hands-on mechanical aptitude and strong technical ability with tools, blueprints, and vehicle systems. I can confidently interpret specifications and perform complex custom modifications to high standards. Safety Conscious - I work with a safety-first mindset, adhering strictly to occupational health and safety regulations and always using the proper personal protective equipment to protect myself and others. Problem Solver - I am resourceful and solution-oriented, able to troubleshoot installation or equipment issues independently and adapt to unexpected challenges with calm efficiency. Physically Capable - I am comfortable working in physically demanding environments that require lifting, bending, squatting, and working in tight or awkward spaces for extended periods. Detail-Oriented - I take pride in precision. From welding and fittings to final inspections and documentation, I ensure every detail meets compliance, safety, and quality standards. Dependable - I show up prepared, meet deadlines, and consistently deliver high-quality work. I understand how crucial my role is in contributing to a safe and functional finished vehicle. Adaptable Team Member I collaborate well with shop foremen, technicians, and operations leaders, responding well to direction while also taking initiative when needed. Effective Communicator - I am a strong, effective and clear communicator that can do so at a high level with business owners and high-level leaders in person, virtually and through written format. Education

•Completion of college/vocational or technical training, preferably in mechanics or automotive repair. • Class A Mechanic’s License is preferred - although not essential.

Experience

•5 years of experience as a mechanic or similar role. •Welder, with 3 years’ experience in welding. (certified not compulsory but would be beneficial)
