What Is the Aging in Motion Grant?

The Aging in Motion (AIM) Grant is a funding opportunity designed to enhance transportation services for seniors in British Columbia. Managed by United Way BC in partnership with the Government of British Columbia, this grant aims to support aging populations by improving mobility and community access.

  • Be a qualified donee as per Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) guidelines (e.g., registered charities, municipalities, Indigenous organizations recognized as public service bodies).
  • Be based in British Columbia.
  • Have strong governance, financial management, and program delivery capabilities.
  • Comply with all federal, provincial, and municipal laws.
  • Be accountable to the community and demonstrate effective leadership.

 

Who can apply for the Aging in Motion grant?

  • Nonprofits and charities serving seniors.
  • Municipalities and Indigenous groups looking to improve transportation access.
  • Organizations that are part of a Healthy Aging Community Collaborative.
  • Entities willing to collaborate with local services, government bodies, and transportation providers.

How much funding is available?

  • Grant amounts range from $10,000 to $100,000.
  • Funds must be used within a one-year period ending March 31, 2026.
  • Funding can support:
    • Expanding existing transportation services.
    • Launching new mobility programs.
    • Improving accessibility with vehicle modifications, coordination, and training.
  • Vehicle purchases or leases are not eligible for funding.

 

What are the conditions of the Aging in Motion grant?

Grant recipients must:

  • Use the funds strictly for approved transportation initiatives.
  • Spend all received funds within the grant period.
  • Submit quarterly and annual reports on program impact.
  • Participate in learning and evaluation activities with United Way BC.
  • Share at least one impact story showcasing how the funding helped seniors.
  • Obtain prior approval from United Way BC for any major project changes.

 

Deadline dates to know

  • February 5, 2025 – Applications open.
  • March 7, 2025 – Application deadline.
  • Mid-March 2025 – Notification of approval or rejection.
  • April 1, 2025 – Funding is released.
  • July 31, 2025 – First quarterly report due.
  • October 31, 2025 – Second quarterly report due.
  • January 30, 2026 – Third quarterly report due.
  • May 8, 2026 – Final report submission deadline.
